Here are some extra tips to support your body through this healing process

Don’t eat sugar, processed foods, or vegetable oils of any kind.

  1. Take a steam bath or sauna every other day.

  2. Take a hot bath with epsom salt or magnesium salts and ACV every other day.

  3. Move your body to get your blood flowing, and your detox pathways active.

  4. Exercise to the point of sweating.

  5. Blow dry your scalp on high heat for at least 5 minutes after a shower or bath, this fungus thrives on moisture, so it’s important to keep your scalp dry.

  6. Remind yourself that your body is capable of overcoming this, and this will not be forever.

  7. Don’t itch! If you are itchy try massaging the soothing salve into your scalp instead.

What to expect throughout treatment

  • When using natural treatments to cure ailments, especially fungal or bacterial infections, consistency is key. This healing protocol contains the most aggressive natural methods of clearing up ringworm, but they will only work if treatments are done properly and promptly every day.

  • Every body is different, so it’s hard to say how quickly it will clear up. Most cases will clear up within 1-2 weeks from start of treatment, but long lasting or chronic cases may take up to 1-3 months, though this is rare. If you don’t see improvement or healing within one month please contact me to begin a secondary regimen.
There are many other natural methods of treatment for this condition.

  • Once lesions begin clearing your skin should return to it’s normal color. In chronic cases there may be some irregularly shaped brown scarring, though this is rare on the scalp. If your lesion starts out as red you can be sure it is beginning to heal as it fades to a light pink. Flaking may continue for as long as a few weeks.

  • Do not cease treatment until your skin is back to a normal color for you, you have no itching or tenderness, inflammation is gone and flakes have ceased for more than 3 days.

  • Whenever you believe your infection to be cleared please continue treatment for a minimum of 5 days, but up to 10. This is to ensure that the fungus has been eradicated and will not return. People who continue treatment for this duration see less or no reoccurrence.
Remember: This is a microscopic fungus and may still be hiding in the tiny cracks of your skin even after the rash clears.

    Hot Tips:

  • Make sure to get plenty of rest, remember that your body is healing and that takes a lot of energy.

  • You may want to take photos before beginning this healing protocol in order to accurately reassess at weekly intervals.

  • Pay close attention to your hygiene during this time. The flakes that fall off an infected scalp can be very contagious and may keep you in the cycle of reinfecting yourself— just as itching your feet or other patches may spread it to other parts of the body.

  • Typically you will cease to be contagious after 10 full days of treatment, and then you can ease up on washing all linens, though they should still be washed at least every 3 days until the infection clears entirely.

  • It is also a good idea to dust around your bed, sweep and mop the floor underneath and quarantine, throw out, or put in the dryer on a heat cycle for 20 minutes, any fabrics that cannot be washed. Remember that ringworm lives on surfaces, and readily reinfects.

  • You may also want to check any animals that live in your house for ringworm, and treat as necessary, as this is commonly how people get infected.

It often gets worse before it gets better

Please be ready for a short period of symptoms worsening before they get better. This is extremely common with natural healing practices since we are simply aiding your body in culling the invaders. Your body, when it’s healthy, has everything needed to heal itself, but occasionally needs a little help, these treatments are supporting your body’s ability to heal itself, not replacing it.

When you begin treatment your body will most likely have a mildly inflammatory response, and your patches may worsen for a time, up to a week or more, in some cases, but generally just a few days. This is a sign of both your body doing it’s job with healing, and the ringworm fungus itself attempting to ramp up production, and stay attached. This should be taken as a good sign.

Be kind to your body, rest is your ally in healing.

Your body may need more sleep, fluids and foods like organ meats and oysters to help it heal your skin. Skin cells reproduce more rapidly when we are asleep, and since ringworm is a topical fungus living on the top layer of skin the quicker your body can produce healthy skin, the quicker it can reduce the infection, so please allow yourself to sleep as much as needed during this time. For this reason you may also experience enhanced shedding or flaking on your scalp for the first week or more of treatment, and overnight.
